The board of directors of the Rugby Club of the Strait has handed over to the mayor, Juan Carlos Ruiz Boix, the plaque awarded to the City Council by the Andalusian Rugby Federation for its promotion of this sport. The entity also thanked the mayor for the important investment that has been made in the municipal area of Pueblo Nuevo, which has involved the renovation of the facilities.
During the celebration, on September 7, of the IV Andalusian Rugby Gala, the regional federation of this sport granted the San Roque City Council a plaque “in recognition of its support for the sports promotion of rugby”.
In addition, the Andalusian federation body also recognized the Rugby Club of the Strait with another plaque for its work in base sports.
Along with Ruiz Boix, the councilor of Sports, Antonio Navas, and the deputy mayor of Valle del Guadiaro, Óscar Ledesma, attended the meeting. On behalf of the club, the president and vice president, David Arias and Arturo López, participated respectively.
As for Rugby del Estrecho, there is no stop in the competitions in which the sanroqueño club takes part. On the one hand, the Sub 16 squad, which trains Parsons and Brazier, played the FAR Cup on Saturday. After having won their first match comfortably against Estación Rinconada with a final result of 62-0, El Estrecho played against CD Rugby Mairena of Sevilla, a team that is one step above the Sanroqueños, but they signed a superb performance during the whole shock.
In fact, the final score of 10-5 for the locals reflects equality. Ben Burgess converted an attempt, and then after Ale González scored again a maximum penalty. A score very close to the victory in which the boys of Rugby del Estrecho were sensational dominating the situation from start to finish.
On the other hand, in their last match of the day and within the FAR Cup, the Strait was measured by the powerful Friends of Rugby, perhaps even harder than the previous match and played power to power. With a pitch almost impracticable due to heavy and heavy rains in the last few hours, the boys from Parsons and Brazier started the game much faster and more concentrated.
After two explosive races by Isaac, Mateo and Alex, finally Ale González manages to take the oval ball to score an attempt. Unfortunately, this initial result was the highlight of the El Estrecho match, as his rival woke up in time to take the final victory, with a result of 34-5.
The guys of the Sub 18 also faced this weekend a hard day of championship that faced them before Mairena at home. Both squads came undefeated to this game. The Strait was behind in the score after an early attempt by the Sevillian side.
Carlos, put a maximum penalty from 40 meters away, which would keep the Sanroqueños in the game. Despite the torrential rain that both teams endured, the local warriors went on to the end, and showed great spirit, but eventually lost the game 24-3.
The captain of the sanroqueño team, Ben Fairbank, has commented on the matter that they were all ready for the great battle in a match that everyone has learned a lot in the face of the following planned in the calendar.
Coach Russ Williams, for his part, admits to being very proud of his team after losing in some of the stages of the match, where he was very close to victory. “
The next match of the Sub 18 is put into play next Saturday again against CDR Mairena. The rematch is served.
Finally, the Senior Team of El Estrecho strengthens its leadership one more day after its hard-fought victory against Victorianos de Málaga. The first team has taken a very important step to be at the top of the table of the central Andalusian group of Second, showing that it is capable of overcoming adversity. The clash ended with a result of 31-12, a marker favorable to El Estrecho, which translates into a solo lead with ten points over their pursuers.
