Sub14: Estrecho v Marbella
Date: 18th November 2017
Ground: Campo Municipal De Rugby, Pueblo Nuevo, Guadiaro
Conditions: Sunny (20), slight breeze
Referee: Joaquin Nimo Bellido
Estrecho won the toss and elected to play down the slope in the first half.
Marbella kicked off to Estrecho, who immediately went on the attack but some fine tackling by Marbella prevented Estrecho making any ground and after 6 minutes a strong scrum by Marbella enabled their backs to run the ball and Matthew Blaney made a fine break to score in the corner which they failed to convert (0-5).
From the restart Estrecho attacked and forced Marbella onto the back foot, some strong running by Fran and Jose led to Mateo running through the middle of the Marbella defence to score under the posts, Charlie converted to make the score 7-5.
In the14th minute Mateo scored an identical try which was converted by Charlie, 14-5 to Estrecho.
Marbella then took the game to Estrecho with some strong runs by their big forwards who out scrummaged and out rucked Estrecho throughout the whole match.
However Fran and Hugo combined well down the left hand side to force an Estrecho scrum just outside the Marbella 22, from the scrum Spike broke down the blindside and side stepped the last defender to score, Manu converted.
Half Time – Estrecho 19 Marbella 5
Into the second half and Marbella forced Estrecho onto the back foot and some strong rucking made space for Matthew Blaney to run in his second try of the afternoon making the score 19-10.
Marbella scoring kick started the Estrecho team into out right attacking rugby, Danny orchestrating a fine break and from the resulting ruck he took a scoring pass off Charlie to go over the Marbella try line. Charlie added the extras 26-10.
The next 10 minutes saw Estrecho wrap up the match, their outstanding passing and desire to win the ball saw Mateo score his 3rd and 4th tries of the afternoon with some outstanding running from inside his own half, to touch down twice, for a man of the match performance. Manu added the extras.
Final Score: Estrecho 40 Marbella 10
Incredibly win Sub 14’s, the hard work in training and the team spirit is reaping the rewards.
